Default It happened to me!

EDIT BY FROG: Removed name as per the forum rules.

Honor, Trust, Sincerity. Can someone please tell me what is wrong with those words? Why is it that just because you can hide behind a computer you can steal someone blind, and take those words and turn them into Thievery, Deceit, and Lies? Why? Is being upright, just, and morally correct just too much for you to handle?

It is pretty pathetic how you will take any opportunity to scam, cheat, steal, and even curse someone, just because they might not be paying attention, might be new, or maybe willing to give you the benefit of the doubt - so you need to teach them a lesson or two about life?

Yup, thanks [REMOVED] – W/Mo 20 for teaching me that even folks who *may* want to do right, can still succumb to the dark side just because they are behind a computer screen :-)

Yes, I know I was stupid. Yes, I have said to myself 100 times over and over again, “No, I will never do that!”

But I did. I have raked and scraped for about 4 months or so now, waiting on that perfect sword. He had it and I was willing to go big. I did too - 300 platinum big! After all, I had 323 platinum just sitting in storage waiting for that perfect sword to come along. I wanted to find it myself - it would have been so much more satisfying... But everyone knows how that goes. Someone else always gets the good loot! So I was willing to purchase it. I had planned on it. That one big splurge.

We chatted for about 5-10 minutes trying to arrange a trade. Just general team chat to figure out how we can make a trade with no worries. We looked at buying ectos to trade instead of platinum, or maybe finding someone we both trusted to hold the goods. Then I do the unthinkable!?!

I decide to myself, “Ok, I have talked with this guy long enough to believe he is on the up and up and I am willing to go an extra mile with him.” So I type out in team chat, “I guess someone has got to start trusting the other sometime or another, so I will go first. I will pay you 200 platinum, and then we make the trade on the last 100.”

I proceed to give him the first 100, then another 100. Low and behold as I go to get the last 100... Yup, he goes offline and hasn’t been back for 2 days now. Sigh. How could I, Me, Myself, get taken like that?!? Not me! Oh my. Lesson learned - trust no one, even if you want to trust them, don’t.

If you are out there and read this Big Naf, send me a whisper please. I will hand over the other 100 platinum so you will know there are no hard feelings between us. Perhaps you will be able to sleep better at night :-)

Good Hunting and Good Luck!

C. C. Fultz

It is sad to say but you will get burned more times than you think doing that kind of trade.
I don't agree with what he/she did but you have to take it that everyone is going to scam you if its possible.

My rule of thumb is unless they bear my last name I don't trust them, even then sometimes I don't.

Not a chance in hell I'd trust anyone in a videogame.

Be cynical, it always works. I feel your pain, Mr. OP. I really do. And I'm sorry you have to go through it.

However, I'd be more than happy to help you do your future big trades. Send me a PM and I will meet you in game and accomodate you.

A cruel swordiddly axe of defense.
IMHO there is nothing in GW worth 300k unless there is a 20/20 +12 energy chakram out there with 16 armor vs all that I have not found lol.

Why is there a cap to only hold 100 plat at a time? Youd' think ANet would change that to avoid this type of scam.

Or, just use ectos or shards a currency.

so if you wanna sell something for 150k, put all your gold in your box, and ask for 100k and 50k worth of shards/ectos/etc, or someone has to take a risk and trust the other person.

If you have any money on you, then you cant accept a trade for 100k.

I just dont understand why there is a 100k cap.

So hard to trust people in game. I would really love to, but there are just too many people out there who just like to do this for kicks. I will continue to help others that ask, but if something gets a bit iffy, then I just stop. It literally hurts me when I can not trust others, either in game, or in real life.

that is one of the major reason, why I dont expect to pay anything over 100k "ingame".
If someone wants to sell over that, I just say nothx. most of the time they msg me back saying yes to 100k, and that's the only way I'd trade with them.

I definitely trust ppl in forums with over 100k trades, than the ppl ingame.

The thing the OP could have done was get other 100k worth items from that person everytime there was a 100k trade, so in the end the final trade window would be, (You)100k + (their)gold 15^50%axe + (their)gold -2/-2 shield = (Them)300k gold sword.

always get collateral.

Nope. You can't trade higher than that. However, i did ask the frog about this a while ago...if you saw my frog post, and i think he said it would be changed soon - or something like that.

I had similar scenario with stormbow i was going to sell.. it was over 100k too, but i wont tell the exact details. So the guy(we'll call him guy 1) came offering a high price for it beating every other bid by a lot. He wanted me to do the trade like yours...giving money first, trading on the last 100k. I immediately said no way..partly because the offer was way higher than yours. He then agrees to have a mod..and immediately says he'll only use this guy(guy 2). His mod comes asking what the stats on it are..then suddenly he bursts out an even higher offer. So i wanted to sell it to him. However now he said that he wanted to use guy 1, who was the orginial buyer as a mod...now this is kind of weird..since guy 1 was the guy who orginially wanted the stormbow.

I eventually turned them down settling for 150k less that what i could of gotten from guy 2 in ectos and 50k cash from the second highest bidder.

There are very cheap people in this game that can easily scam you. THey are hidden behind their comptuers as you can only see their avatar. You shouldn't go around trusting anyone you see in the game. Im sorry abut your 200k though...hope you can find him and somehow get it back...or earn more money.

It's a little harsh to say it was the OP's fault, but I tend to agree with the rest.

What a sad reflection on life.

What weapon was it Phelanwolf? If I ever find one, you can have it for free.
